If you’re going to take the time to plan a garage sale why would you want to sit around bored? Here are a few simple tips to keep your sale moving right along.

Make sure you use effective signage. If it’s hard for people to spot your sale your traffic will suffer and it will make your day drag by plus it will cut into those profits that you’ve been hoping for!

If at all possible have merchandise close to or at least visible from the curb. Remember people aren’t always in a hurry to get out of their car if it doesn’t look like the sale is worth their time. Die hard garage salers know there are only a several precious hours to make their finds. Many of them will be armed with a list of sales to visit and aren’t about to waste time.

If your sale has hit a lull (realize this is very normal around the lunch hour) here is a quick and easy tip to liven it up. People by nature want things that are in demand. If salers drive by and see no one shopping they are going to assume there is nothing of interest and will not be as inclined to stop. It’s time to get people involved. Have your friends, family, neighbors or whomever is handy walk around and browse your tables. Have them actually pose as shoppers. If your cars are parked a way from your house park one of them in front of your home where a shopper would park. You will be amazed that all of a sudden you have people stopping!

Every seasoned garage sale host knows that in late afternoon things really start slowing down. This is also when the junkers and pro’s are out looking for their best deals. So unless you want to pack all of that stuff up just to set it out again next summer start marking it down, offering a bag for a buck or making a clearly marked sign that says 1/2 price of something of the like.
